The Indian rupee sign is the currency symbol for the Indian rupee, the official currency of India, adopted in 2010. Before its adoption, the most commonly used symbols for the rupee were Rs, Re and in texts in vernacular Indian languages. Designed by Udaya Kumar, it was selected through an ‘open’ competition among Indian residents.

India Design System aims to be an exhaustive catalogue of freely downloadable signage ranging from government logos to common public symbols, hospital signages, and traffic signs that are essential to social infrastructure in India. Why should the traffic sign for U-turn be different in different Indian states? Why do people stretch Aadhar logos to use in their presentations? Why don't we have a common design language and system in our country. Our endeavour is to help make the task of designing for the people in India, easy and time-saving for designers and creative professionals, consultants, printers and agencies designing communication material for public.
